FORE!!!!!!!

This year, Mother's Day weekend was a bit scary. On Saturday, our ten year old son was hit in the face (accidentally) with a golf club. He and his friend were hitting golf balls in the friend's backyard and our little guy was too close. Neither were watching. We spent six hours in our local emergency room and another two hours with a dental resident in a nearby town. No broken bones but the dental resident had to move his four bottom teeth back into place and bond them together.

His face is healing well now. It's been a few days and all that is left is the bonding and a bit of bruising. It's a funny yellowish-green color.

So, I spent Mother's Day making soft foods and taking care of my youngest. Can't think of a better way to spend the day.

The truth is, we were lucky. Just thinking about what might have happened scares me silly! Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers who are reading this blog!!!!

New York City in April

On Thursday, I took our daughter (age 17) and our Vietnamese daughter (age 16) to NYC. We had such a delightful time. Our highlights included visiting South Street Seaport, bartering with the vendors on Canal Street, a ferris wheel ride in the Toys 'R Us Store in Times Square and a carriage ride around Central Park! The World Trade Center Site still brings tears to my eyes as I think of those who were lost that day. Our lives have changed so much in the past few years, haven't they?

While on the subway, I spent a lot of time looking at people's shoes. I think I probably looked at shoes because I was taught it is rude to stare at others. And, there are so many people to watch on the subway!!!! I think that you can learn alot about people by the shoes they wear. I saw tennis shoes and high heels, work boots and clogs, sturdy no-nonsense black shoes and even a pair of red sparkly shoes--exactly like those that Dorothy wore in the Wizard of Oz.

Our adventures in New York City left us with the memories of a great trip. And, I had some much needed down time--and although it was a busy three days, it was a different kind of busy. We enjoyed the days and each other.

I think that mini vacations like this one are the best therapy! May your week be filled with joy, happiness and a mini-vacation--even a mini-vacation with a good book or movie.

This is my life

I am a working mother with four children. Currently, I am working three jobs. My full time job is at a local public library where I am responsible for publicity and young adult programming. Writing is my first love and so you probably won't be surprised to learn that I am also a freelance writer for our local newspaper. My third job is selling Lia Sophia Jewelry. My children are ages 19, 17, 12 and 10. And, this year, we are hosting a foreign exchange student from Vietnam. She is 16. Needless to say, my life is a very busy one.
